Thursday, 15 October 2009
Welcome to Yorkshire has appointed Marcus Falconer to lead its marketing team to even greater success in selling Yorkshire to the world.
He joins Welcome to Yorkshire as Marketing Director from the UK’s leading high ropes course adventure company Go Ape. As Head of Marketing he played an instrumental role in guiding the development of the Go Ape brand and marketing during the last four years. Previously he worked in various media and advertising agency roles, including Swedish brand communications agency, Lowe Brindfors, and Ware Anthony Rust in Cambridge.
Marcus joins Welcome to Yorkshire following the organisation’s recent rebrand from the Yorkshire Tourist Board.
Gary Verity, chief executive at Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Marcus to the team. He’s arrived at an exciting time in the development of our national and international brand and will lead on a range of marketing initiatives including our award winning campaign ‘A long weekend in Yorkshire isn’t long enough’.”
Welcome to Yorkshire has been enjoying recent marketing success, including winning TravelMole’s Best Tourist Board website for www.yorkshire.com and the International Business Forum’s award for Innovation in Marketing.
Marcus added: “I aim to build on our awards and other major coups such as hosting the opening stage of the Tour of Britain, Clipper 09-10, and hosting a leg of the Mountain Bike World Cup in 2010. I will lead the team in targeting domestic and key international markets to make Yorkshire the destination at the forefront of people’s minds.”
