Yorkshire - the best a Dad can get
Tuesday, 16 June 2009
The tourism agency,
Welcome to Yorkshire has identified six types of Dad and has a Father’s Day solution for them all. From the New Dads to the Old Relics, Yorkshire can keep the other man in your life occupied this coming Sunday.
New Dad
What better way to revitalise a sleep deprived new dad than to send him to a Spa. Yorkshire has an impressive range of spas, offering fabulous treatments this weekend. Titanic Spa in Huddersfield, the UK’s first eco-spa, is offering a range of Decleor and Elemis top-to-toe treatments for men, Thorpe Park Hotel in Leeds is offering a men's ESPA Gift Box worth £39.50 with a Gift Voucher for an ESPA Back Massage worth £33.00 for the exclusive price of £60.00. Whilst The Feversham Arms & Verbena Spa in Helmsley North Yorkshire is offering a special “Turn Back Time” package which includes a classic car drive, picnic, champagne, two night stay, spa treatments and food.
Holy Father
If your dad’s in need of a bit of peace and quiet how about visiting some of Yorkshire’s stunning abbeys and churches. From the dramatic ruins of Whitby Abbey poised at the top of the windswept harbour bay to the splendour of Ripon Cathedral which still serves as a parish church today.
Fun Dad
To keep your dad entertained all day let him revisit his childhood on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. A steam train adventure through the Moors is a chance for dad to nestle into nostalgia. If he’s got a need for speed, race to Yorkshire 4x4 in Thirsk where he can off-road in the full range of vehicles including Discovery, Defender or Hummer H3. Or perhaps he can release his inner gorilla at Go Ape High Wire Forest Adventure in Dalby Forest, where you can have fun together as you tackle zip slides, cargo nets and rope bridges.
Natural Dad
Getting back to nature, take your dad to White Scar Cave which is holding a 'Cool Dads' weekend. Now the Yorkshire weather is hotting up White Scar Cave offers 80 minutes of cool 8°C natural wonders. Or go wild at Yorkshire Wildlife Park and encounter animals from all over the world such as meerkats, llama, wallabies, lemurs and emus
Old Relic Dad
Take in some history with your dad by visiting some of the UK’s most beautiful and fascinating historical houses such as Harewood House just outside Leeds or Castle Howard in York. To go back further in time, sample the stretch of coast from Staithes to Speeton which is so rich in fossil history it is known as the Dinosaur Coast visit. Or if the weather turns against you, visit The Rotunda at Scarborough’s William Smith Museum of Geology where fossils of dinosaur footprints are on display. For more recent history try Jorvik in York where dads go free this Sunday or the Royal Armouries Museum, Leeds which has jousting, sword fighting and falconry displays this Sunday.
Gourmet Dad
Although you might be hard pressed to find a table at one of Yorkshire’s five Michelin Starred restaurants, there are a hundreds of Yorkshire pubs, restaurants and bistros, from fish and chips to fine dining, to fill your father.
Whatever type of Dad you have, Yorkshire’s got a solution for you. Visit www.yorkshire.com for more information on any of the above and for great ideas on how to enjoy Yorkshire this Father’s Day and any day.
