The YTB Board is led by Chairman, Judith Donovan CBE, who took to the helm on 1 April 2005. Judith, an ardent supporter of all things Yorkshire has a background of working with organisations through phases of change and development.
In 1982 Judith launched her own agency, which went on to become the second largest independent direct marketing agency in the UK. In autumn 2000, she sold this to her staff and set up DIY Direct Marketing Ltd to facilitate her speaking, writing and consultancy activities.
Judith, who was raised in Doncaster and Bradford, attended university in Hull and ran her own business in Bradford for 20 years, now lives near Ripon. She is both a Millennium and Health and Safety Commissioner (with a focus on small businesses). In addition she is Chairman of the Northern Region of Postwatch and a Director of Northern Ballet Theatre.
The position of Chairman of YTB is one of the most high profile tourism appointments in Yorkshire and Humber and plays a vital role in delivering tourism for the region. The changes to the tourism industry in Yorkshire have come about following the Government’s decision in April 2003 to transfer strategic responsibility for tourism to regional development agencies, Yorkshire Forward for the Yorkshire region. This has resulted in over 12 months of consultation and discussion between public and private sector partners, with an agreement on proposals for change being reached between Yorkshire Forward and YTB in September 2004. As a key part of this change process, Judith will work closely with senior staff of YTB and Yorkshire Forward, to transform YTB to the new and clearly focused team.
The new team of 11 Non-Executive Directors will support Judith and their role, alongside Executive Directors and supported by the staff of YTB, is to oversee the development of YTB by generating new ideas and initiatives and associated implementation procedures.
